Digital X-Rays

December 21, 2009

With only a fraction of the radiation exposure of even the fastest film x-rays, digital x-rays are safer for everyone in the office. Harmful chemicals are no longer necessary and neither is wasted developing time. Patients can have their teeth radiographed and interpreted in under five minutes. Another big advantage with digital x-rays is the clarity of the image which doctors can magnify and manipulate to make certain that your diagnosis is as accurate as possible.

Zoom! Teeth Whitening

December 14, 2009

One of the procedures we have here at Walnut Hill Dental is the Zoom! teeth whitening system. It is a fantastic procedure that produces some of the most spectacular results.

Your smile is important. It’s one of the first things you notice when you meet someone. A whiter, brighter smile is beautiful – it can help you feel better about yourself and make a memorable impression

Your lifestyle and the aging process can stain and darken your teeth. Many things we do on a regular basis can contribute to stained teeth, such as drinking coffee, tea, cola and red wine or smoking.

Whitening can get your smile looking its best. Non-professional procedures and clinically unproven teeth whitening tips can often lead to unsatisfactory results, you should look for a whitening procedure that is:

Fast and convenient
Long lasting
Low sensitivity
Proven to be safe and effective
Performed by a Dental Professional

Home Tooth Care

December 7, 2009

A beautiful, healthy smile that lasts a lifetime is our ultimate goal when treating patients. Your personal home care plays an important role in achieving that goal. It starts at home by eating balanced meals, reducing the number of snacks you eat, and correctly using the various dental aids that help control the plaque and bacteria that cause dental disease.

Tooth brushing – Brush your teeth at least twice a day (especially before going to bed at night) with an ADA approved soft bristle brush and toothpaste.

1.
Place the brush at a 45 degree angle to the gums and gently brush using a small, circular motion, ensuring that you always feel the
bristles on the gums.
2.
Brush the outer, inner, and biting surfaces of each tooth.
3.
Use the tip of the brush to clean the inside of the front teeth.
4.
Brush your tongue to remove bacteria and freshen your breath.

Electric toothbrushes are also recommended. They are easy to use and can remove plaque efficiently. Simply place the bristles of the electric brush on your gums and teeth and allow the brush to do its job, several teeth at a time.

Flossing – Daily flossing is the best way to clean between the teeth and under the gumline. Flossing not only helps clean these spaces, it disrupts plaque colonies from building up, preventing damage to the gums, teeth, and bone.

1.
Take 12-16 inches (30-40cm) of dental floss and wrap it around your middle fingers, leaving about 2 inches (5cm) of floss between the
hands.
2.
Using your thumbs and forefingers to guide the floss, gently insert the floss between teeth using a sawing motion.
3.
Curve the floss into a “C” shape around each tooth and under the gumline.Gently move the floss up and down, cleaning the side of each
tooth.

Floss holders are recommended if you have difficulty using conventional floss.

Rinsing – It is important to rinse your mouth with water after brushing, and also after meals if you are unable to brush. If you are using an over-the-counter product for rinsing, it’s a good idea to consult with your dentist or dental hygienist on its appropriateness for you.

Use other dental aids as recommended by your dentist or dental hygienist: Interdental brushes, rubber tip stimulators, tongue cleaners, irrigation devices, fluoride, medicated rinses, etc., can all play a role in good dental home care.

Hard/Soft Tissue Laser

November 25, 2009

Our dental laser can provide treatment of decay and gum problems in many cases without anesthesia. We use this routinely for many types of cavities, filling replacements, gum infections, and even bone treatments. The greatest advantage is it safety and in many cases, can be done with no shots! The laser also sterilizes the tooth as it removes decay. This is important because it is generally decay under old fillings that can lead to root canals. http://www.yourdentistryguide.com/laser/

Invisalign

October 21, 2009

Need braces, but don’t want to deal with all of the discomfort and restrictions that are included with them? Then maybe Invisalign is your answer.

Braces are not just for kids anymore. Many adults who have suffered from crowded, unsightly teeth are electing to correct their smile. We offer “Invisalign” invisible braces. They are used to correct cases with rotated teeth, tipped teeth, and minor relapse cases. If there is enough space the correction can be made with just resets.

Your Invisalign treatment will consist of a series of aligners that you switch out about every two weeks. Each aligner is individually manufactured with exact calculations to gradually shift your teeth into place. And since your Invisalign system is custom-made for your teeth and your teeth only, with a plan devised by you and your dentist, you know you’ll end up with a smile that truly fits.

Invisalign is the best way to transform your smile without interfering with your day-to-day life.

If you’re ready for a smile that transforms your appearance, Invisalign is your answer. Although there are many choices out there, no other works as effortlessly as the Invisalign system.

Intra-oral Camera

October 13, 2009

This is a great educational tool because it shows magnified images of your teeth and gums. It is immediately projected on to a monitor in front of you so you can see exactly what we are diagnosing. This helps to clear any confusion about pain or infection and the recommended treatment. We are also able to save the images in your personal file. It takes only seconds and there’s no radiation or discomfort.

I’ve always been good with my hands. I could make or fix anything. But my previous profession in the medical field left me wanting more to do with my natural talent. I feel so fortunate to be in a profession where I go to my office not to work, but to do things that I love. Such as helping people improve their quality of life through dental education, using my hands to create beautiful smiles, alleviate pain, and meet new people.

The greatest satisfaction I receive from dentistry is connecting with patients through education. By using simple explanations, photographs of their condition, and relating it on terms they are familiar with. It was the hospital that taught me the most important lessons for my dental career. It taught me how to care for people’s emotional needs, how to communicate with patients, and how to empathize with someone in pain.

Too often I meet people who live with conditions and handicaps on a day-to-day basis that lowers their quality of life. My philosophy is that if they take control of their health they will improve their quality of life forever, my goal is to motivate patients to handle their situation and start living the quality life they deserve now. And hopefully in the process, they effect the same change in the people around them. It’s incredible when I see people regain control and start getting so much more out of life.
